Non-Flat Top Surgery

Also known as the chest masculinization procedure, it is a process that involves reshaping and reconstruction of the tissues or muscles that are not on the surface. Some prefer to undergo this procedure to improve aesthetics, and others need it to correct deformities or repair their injuries. Doctors adjust uneven bones to create a more natural look. These are also the category of transgender surgeries when the proper reshaping and reconstructing of body parts are done so that their appearance matches their gender. Such treatments are extremely advantageous for binary and non-binary genders.

What to expect during Non-Flat Top Surgery?

Medical evaluations

Firstly, gender surgeons do the assessment and make sure there is no underlying cause that could be an obstacle to the treatment. They can review medical history or perform tests like MRI, CT Scan or X-rays. It’s also essential to check which technique they will use during the treatment so that everything in the process meets your expectations, ensuring there is no risk that can give rise to any complication. Some surgeons may also recommend activities to perform so that you can be mentally and physically prepared before entering the operation theatre.

Numb the area

Doctors numb the area where the surgery is to be performed with the use of anaesthesia. It makes certain that the patient does not feel any pain or discomfort. Local anaesthesia also helps doctors perform the surgery without complications when the patients are unconscious, ensuring they know how the surgery is being performed.

Functioning

Surgeons carefully make a T- or anchor-shaped scar by creating three incisions near the areola, moving down to the inframammary fold and horizontally along the fold. This step is done by marking the pre-planned lines, ensuring there is no risk of any scar after the surgery. There is another surgical treatment that is used among transgenders, the buttonhole procedure. In this process, surgeons make incisions in the same areas but do not link with chest areas.

Tissue modification

This step involves the removal of excess tissue from the breast, giving people looking for it a more desired masculine look so that they can feel more comfortable with their bodies. This treatment is advised to those seeking to maintain an appearance aligning with their identity by creating a realistic and genuine result.

Closure with dressing

After removing the excess tissue and repositioning the nipple, the final step is to give the closure with dressing by stapling it. Doctors can apply bandages, surgical tapes, sterile gauze or cotton absorbents, which help to prevent infections after the surgery.

Post-Surgery Recovery: Healing Process & Care Tips

What happens after the surgery?

There can be a little pain and discomfort that you can experience in the first week, but doctors also prescribe some medications to abate the pain and give relief because, at this point in time, proper rest is a must. Within the second or third week, you can return to your daily routine activities, but avoiding heavy lifting can be fruitful. When you notice the incisions are healed, you can continue with daily activities and start taking care of the scar. Regular visits are important to ensure the prevention of any complications; if it looks healed, it does not mean you no longer need visits to the doctor.
